The Mint welcomes rock, blues, and
jazz performers as well as talented DJs. Their
music includes:
electronic/rock/blues/jazz/acoustic/folk, R&B
and soul. The Mint underwent a major renovation in
99 which tripled floor space, as well as spawned a
beautiful full-bar, a comprehensive Southern menu,
and a cool 1940's vibe. Reservations are available
for dinner The Mint serves food to all ages. It's
definitely a good place to be on a Saturday night.
Stanton's shows feature a mix of roots rock;
obscure, but tasty, covers of various genres;
country; blues; '40s standards and a touch of Tex
Mex. Harry Dean, with a cigarette in one hand and
a Jack and Coke in the other, stands centerstage
cracking wise, telling stories and blowing some
mean harp depending on the song. A sprightly 73
years young, the guy is a wonder. He's a good
vocalist and when he breaks into an energetic jig
onstage the crowd goes nuts. His band is a
talented unit featuring guitar, drums, bass and
keys. Every now and then a musical guest will show
up. Doors drummer John Densmore has sat in,
country singer Mark Collie turned up once, the
Band's Robbie Robertson joined in and Elton John
lyricist Bernie Taupin lent his vocal talents to
the proceedings. And Lord knows who might be in
the audience on any given night. Jack Nicholson,
Sean Penn, Frederic Forrest, Laurence Fishburne,
Dabney Coleman and Liv Tyler have been seen at
various times rooting Harry on. And as bad as
Harry's jokes are...they're still hilarious.
